Zero in conduct: in-formative actions driven by young people, teachers and citizens to reduce environmental impact
Aim of the project is to provide tools and new spaces of dialogue in order to help the actors of the formal and informal field activate themselves through educational and training activities to fight climate change, after deeply understanding its mechanisms. The project wants to develop the transversal skills, to increase the cognitive, socio-emotional and behavioural dimension of the youngsters’ learning in order to make them protagonists of the ecological transition, thus to support the “individual and collective change to create a more sustainable and just world”. The Action engages educational and local institutions, young people and citizens.
The project consists in three main components/results:
- Young People and teachers gain more tools to understand Climate Change:
- Local institutions and CSOs increase their knowledge and ability to activate citizens, addressing them towards the ecological transition;
- Citizens are encouraged to participate in the ecological transition and the fight against Climate Change.
The project will develop Peer Education and Changemaker territorial paths. Both of them will allow the acquisition and the strengthening of information linked to local/national/global programs and strategies for ecological transition and the reduction of the environmental impact, active participation and decision-making processes. The understanding of these issues will allow young people to take action themselves, encourage their peers to be the protagonists of the ecological transition and local urban regeneration.
Young people will be engaged through exchange experiences such as The Climate Training Camp and the Open Call to Action. The Open Call to Action will allow them to send their ideas to answer the local environmental challenge. A commission of judges from the Bcorp and Benefit field, institutions and professionals of sustainability will evaluate them.
Local administrations and CSOs will be trained not only on policies and opportunities linked to the ecological transition but also on tools and good practices for youth and citizen engagement for a real participation in the decision-making processes.
Further beneficiaries of the training, at national level, will be the Teachers, who will receive information and materials to strengthen their knowledge and methodologies.
The project foresees, as a third result, a National Communication Campaign and Exchange initiatives promoted by the beneficiaries to make the citizens active members of the fight against climate change. To meet this goal, we also want to develop a Re-Granting activity to allow a selection of CSOs to develop their own local initiatives of awareness, advocacy and mobilization. The final national Event will be a further opportunity of exchange and dissemination at the institutional level.

Mindchangers: Regions and youth for Planet and People
MINDCHANGERS is a European project involving institutions and associations from 6 European regions to discuss Agenda 2030, climate change and migration. Through calls for projects implemented by Local Authorities and CSOs and an innovative pan-European campaign, young people are involved through active citizenship actions and their engagement on global challenges and core values is strengthened.
Independent external evaluation – in itinere and final – of the MINDCHANGERS initiative aimed at analysing the quantity and quality of results, in order to facilitate the implementation of the project and support the evaluation of activities and results to be carried out by the European Commission.
The analysis requested focuses on the progress of the activities and the level of achievement of the expected results, without neglecting the description of obstacles and of the mitigation and adaptation measures adopted, in order to provide the commissioning body (and the partners of the initiative) with suggestions aimed at improving the implementation of the project and the possible elaboration of future projects.
For the realisation of the evaluation activities, in addition to the documentary analysis, information is collected through the following survey methods:
- Semi-structured interviews, in order to collect opinions, perceptions, information and data from the contact persons of the partner organisations and the main stakeholders (and/or key informants), supplemented if necessary by seminars/group discussions with the same stakeholders, in order to be able to enhance group dynamics and their contributions.
- On-line questionnaires, in order to involve as many stakeholders as possible to gather qualitative elements;
- Seminars/group discussions to gather ‘broad’ and qualitative evaluation elements (e.g. lessons learnt, impacts and sustainability of the initiative, spheres of influence and case studies etc.).

B Circular, fight climate change!
The project aimed to foster citizens awareness on risks associated with climate change and to support constant reflection on circular development models capable of integrating the social, economic, institutional and environmental dimensions of actions. In line with this objectives, 17 projects of third sector entities were selected, financed and promoted through 2 calls.
The project was part of the “There isn’t a PLANet B project! Win-win strategies and small actions for big impacts on climate change”, funded by the European Commission as part of the DEAR (Development Education and Raising Awareness) program and was aimed at CSOs wishing to promote challenges related to climate change, stimulating a continuous reflection on the importance of carrying out inclusive shared actions, capable of initiating individual practices and / or stimulating sustainable policies.
The general objective of the project was to contribute to the development of knowledge and critical sense among citizens on global interdependence and on society’s sense of co-responsibility on climate change. This objective was achieved through the promotion and active commitment of third sector entities active in environmental campaigning and advocacy initiatives that promoted effective actions on climate change and sustainable lifestyles.
The 2 calls supported projects aimed at pursuing the following SDGs:
Responsible production and consumption (SDG 12), therefore stimulating responsible production methods and approaches to consumption in order to ‘do more and better with less’. This goal was achieved by increasing the benefits in terms of well-being produced by economic activities, reducing the consumption of resources and pollution throughout the life cycle of the products, greater use of renewable energy sources, recycling and reuse of waste and at the same time improving the quality of life. For example, by financing systemic approaches and cooperation between the supply chain actors, from the producer to the final consumer and raising awareness of consumers towards more sustainable lifestyles through campaigns aimed at increasing awareness.
Fight against climate change (SDG 13), therefore contributing to take actions to combat climate change, increasing citizens’ awareness of possible individual and collective solutions to develop more sustainable and resilient economic systems. For example, by financing systemic approaches and multi-stakeholder cooperation to tackle climate change.
The projects awarded had these common points:
- they used innovative approaches or intervention models or tools;
- they have significantly promoted eco-innovation and the circular economy;
- they have demonstrated clarity in the description of the objectives and in the identification of the targets (with evident measurement of the effects);
- they have proposed collaborations and networking activities with other subjects, public-private partnerships, collaborations with local authorities and companies

NOPLANETB is the first Italian HUB that aims to promote the spread of sustainable lifestyles by incubating, co-designing and financing communication, advocacy and awareness-raising ideas and initiatives promoted by small organizations of Italian civil society and aimed at raising awareness of citizens on the topic of climate change
Starting from 2017, and thanks to the There isn’t a PLANet B! Win-win strategies and small actions for big impacts on climate change, funded by the European Commission under the DEAR program (Development Education and Raising Awareness), PuntoSud has experimented, for the first time in Italy, the tool of financial support to third parties, a financing mechanism through which European Union funds have been disbursed to medium and small organizations.
Financial support is a tool to include in the financing mechanisms, thanks to the guarantees offered by the intermediary organization, small-sized organizations, which often have very limited managerial and financial skills, but innovative, replicable and scalable ideas and which are very active and capillaries in the territory for the reference community. It also allows organizations to participate in calls with simpler application and selection procedures.
The attention towards this tool has grown considerably in recent years, so the European Union considers it a key component of its calls for proposals.
Thanks to the experience acquired, PuntoSud guarantees, before launching the calls to finance the Organizations, to identify a particularly urgent topic of collective interest with CSOs and to develop a shared strategy between the donor and the PuntoSud Foundation.
PuntoSud monitors the project implementation process and the progress of the entire process and ensures that the results achieved are constantly checked. Furthermore, the CSOs are accompanied both in planning and in managing the funds, organizing training sessions for the same CSOs.
This training, detailed on the basis of the interests and characteristics of the small and medium-sized civil society organizations financed, includes meetings and workshops for sharing design methods and rules and project managing, as well as training on relevant topics for projects (crowdfunding, campaigning, storytelling, social marketing).
A helpdesk service is provided and is available to all funded organizations for the entire duration of the project. This service provides continuous support, guidance and answers to specific questions such as the preparation of management tools and the sharing of good practices among the financed organizations.
NOPLANETB has the communication as a transversal element at all levels due to the relevance it has in initiating a change on the issue of climate change, and to promote the development of a solid network among the organizations financed to start the development of strategic partnerships, or strengthen them.
To date, 6 calls have been launched, funding and supporting 58 organizations.

Empowering youth, living EU values, tackling climate change
1Planet4All operates in 12 European countries with the aim of raising awareness and promoting the engagement of young people in the development of concrete actions in the fight against climate change
1Planet4All is a 3-year project co-funded by the European Union (EuropeAid DEAR budget line), aimed at raising awareness and critical understanding of the European youths in 12 EU member states about climate change to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and inspire their active engagement in concrete actions for safe, inclusive and ‘climate smart’ communities. The key change expected will contribute to foster the active citizenship of European youths to address Agenda 2030, by enhancing the sense of inter-dependency, personal responsibility and solidarity between developed and developing countries for a sustainable future for all.
Three are the key outputs expected:
- Enhanced understanding of at least 8.555.000 EU young people in 12 EU member states of the impact of climate change at global level, including the impact on migration and of the urgency for individual and collective action;
- A new generation of 147.940 young leaders in 12 EU member states has been inspired, trained and up-skilled to become agents of change and encourage their peers and decision makers to take action in their daily lives to fight climate change and to strive for structural change;
- At least 26.380 young people in the 12 EU member states have developed concrete ideas and taken action to tackle climate change and its related issues.
A joint campaign will be launched to cover all the 12 EU partner countries and will be complemented by campaigns at national level, to enhance the youths’ understanding on the themes of the project. Activities to encourage youths to take action will be implemented, together with initiatives to boost their engagement.
Resilient GAP, one of the CSO who benefits from a financial support to third parties in Italy, has produced a very interesting guide to make sustainable choices.

Training of candidate volunteers of the European Voluntary Humanitarian Aid Corps
The European Solidarity Corps programme aims to provide young people, including those with fewer opportunities, with easily accessible opportunities for engagement in solidarity activities, while improving and validating their competences.
Civil society and human rights in Eswatini
In Eswatini we support human rights associations through the promotion of knowledge and participatory methods, thus facilitating the work of local networks and the interaction between different public and private entities operating in the African country.
NOPLANETB EU: small actions for big impacts on climate change
NOPLANETB is a program designed to promote the spread of sustainable lifestyles through the financial support of the best communication, awareness and advocacy initiatives aimed at fighting climate change and promoted by small and medium-sized civil society organizations, which benefit from a path of capacity building to enhance their skills and consolidate and / or expand their network.
NOPLANETB is an advocacy and campaigning project, co-financed by the European Union as part of the Development Education and Awareness Raising (DEAR) Program, which aims to support and encourage the involvement, participation and commitment of citizens on the issue of environmental sustainability, in relation to global development. The project aims to create a conducive environment around the concept that “there is no PLANET B”, in which small and medium-sized civil society organizations carry out effective actions within a shared common framework, aimed at increasing the effectiveness and relevance of the intervention, favouring the creation and consolidation of networks, at national and international level.
Small and medium-sized civil society organizations represent the main target of the project, as they can play a fundamental role in promoting a change in people’s habits and behaviours to spread more sustainable lifestyles at local level. The small actions, which insist on a territory, are in fact able to produce benefits for their community and to put pressure on the higher levels of governance to institutionalize good practices and propose innovative solutions, with a bottom-up approach. Civil society organizations are therefore able to connect and liaise with the different components of civil society, in the perspective of a real transition towards more sustainable lifestyles.
The project aims at impacting on three different levels:
The third parties (around 90 CSOs) represent the direct target group of this project. The project identifies three different incentives: funds, knowledge and contacts. Therefore, the project is built around three main components:
- Local level: civil society organizations have carried out small actions involving citizens and local communities, in collaboration with local institutions, with the aim of changing citizens and decision-makers’ behaviours;
- National level: collaboration is activated between the civil society organizations involved and other key stakeholders within their own country;
- At pan-European level: civil society organizations in collaboration with NOPLANETB partners have intervened at the European level with coordinated actions and with a coherent approach in the six countries of the network.
In order to produce this impact, NOPLANETB has identified three main components:
-
- Financial support: a regranting model aimed at civil society organizations of the 6 European countries of the network, for the implementation of effective projects that contribute to the shared project priorities.
- Development of skills / knowledge sharing: a path to accompany the organizations benefiting from financial support with the aim of strengthening their thematic and managerial skills during the design, development and implementation of their projects.
- Strengthening networking opportunities: building a network that enhances social capital, identifies areas of collaboration, detects new ideas and optimizes costs. Contacts and experience sharing are key factors to create multiplier effects and maximize the impact of the proposed actions.

Civil society and environmental networks in the Balkans and Turkey
Through the project ENV.net, for over ten years we have been facilitating and supporting the work of environmental organisations in the Balkans and Turkey, through favouring a network building approach while promoting existing resources and opportunities within the different contexts.
The project “ENV.net factoring the environmental portfolio for WB and Turkey in the EU Policy Agenda” is implemented by Co-PLAN (Albania), as leading agency, and ATRC (Kosovo under UNSCR 1244/99), EASD (Serbia), EEB (Belgium), 4X4X4 Balkan Bridges (FYROM), Green Home (Montenegro), LIR Evolution (BiH), PuntoSud (Italy) and TEMA (Turkey), as partners.
With an overall amount of 1 M €, the project is co-funded by the European Commission – Directorate General EuropeAid. It started in December 2017 for a duration of 36 months.
The project aims at contributing to improve the environment for civil society and pluralistic media, as effective and accountable independent actors in dialoguing with Governments for influencing environmental policy and decision-making processes. It is expected that the ENV.net plays a leading role in policy elaboration on environmental issues, orienting the debate in circular economy and climate change issues, involving grass-root environmental CSOs, media and society in the Western Balkans and Turkey region.
Our activities
In the frame of the project, punto.sud is firstly playing a sort of crosscutting and transversal role, in particular to:
- Elaborate and provide common tools for CSO networking and collaboration (small CSO capacity development) to capitalise the experience acquired in the previous phases (from 2012 to 2016);
- Identify and share good practices within partners (e.g. collaboration with media, re-granting etc.);
- Contribute to the definition of the financial support to third parties package (e.g. guidelines, templates, M&E modalities) and identification of effective models and share within partners;
- Support the revision of existing e- learning modules, by diversifying topics and modalities, and the strengthening of the communication strategy.
Furthermore, PuntoSud is putting the basis to extend some of the key activities to the Italian scenario in order to ensure the spread and exchange of best practices and innovative models in the frame of the circular economy, especially by:
- Contributing to the preparation of a joint methodology for the assessment of the circular economy applicable in the Western Balkans and Turkey;
- Reviewing of existing experience in Italy with regard to the circular economy models and practices;
- Organising of one thematic study tour in Italy on Circular Economy practices.
