Milano in Cartoline

Imagining the city of the future to build a decision-making, participatory and democratic process to build social cohesion and responding to climate change.

The project Milano in Cartoline – Imagining the city of the future aims to build a decision-making, participatory and democratic process with the citizens of 3 neighbourhoods in Milan (Ponte Lambro – Molise Calvairate Ponti – Gratosoglio), to plan with them the sustainable future of their territory, to build social cohesion and responding to climate change.

With the aim to building a participatory and democratic decision process with the citizens of the 3 project districts, to plan with them the sustainable future of their territories, in response to climate change and to build cohesion social, the 3 partner organizations carried out workshops with the citizens. During these moments, the inhabitants were invited to reflect about the specific needs of their neighborhood and the various realities that coexist there, about the human, material, energy and cultural resources, creating a specific local vision of sustainability through a participatory and democratic design process.

Each action therefore pursued the following objectives, in line with the objectives of the project:

  • Discussing issues related to environmental sustainability with the participants, in order to increase their knowledge about the conditions of the earth and letting them aware of the international objectives for its protection;
  • Promoting daily eco-sustainable behaviors, identified on the basis of specific needs identified personally;
  • Identifying strategies, tools and solutions to improve neighborhoods and cities environmentally;
  • Raising awareness on a larger scale.

Project to counter the illegal migration through the support to the private sector and the job creation in Senegal

PASPED is a 21-month project financed by AICS Dakar as part of the overall programme PLASEPRI/PASPED and aims at fostering the socio-economic development in Senegal by capitalising the Senegalese diaspora between Europe and Italy. 70 business ideas, promoted by Senegalese citizens living in Italy (and/or Europe), will selected and supported to outline fully-fledged business plans.

PASPED (Projet de contraste à la migration irrégulière à travers l’appui au Secteur Privé et à la création d’emplois au Sénégal) is a 21-month project financed by AICS Dakar as part of the overall programme PLASEPRI/PASPED and aims at fostering the socio-economic development in Senegal by capitalising the Senegalese diaspora between Europe and Italy.

The project idea stems from the collaboration and the exchanges with the Senegalese diaspora in Italy and from the shared objective to promote the business ideas of Senegalese citizens to be realised in their home country, as well as to strengthen the interconnections between Italy and Senegal and to support the circular migration.

Within this framework, PASPED aims at increasing the knowledge of the Senegalese citizens in Italy on the PLASEPRI/PASPED support measures and at improving their access to the opportunities available, thanks to the widespread network of info points in synergy with the consulates of Milan and Naples.

In particular, 70 business ideas will be selected and their promoters supported – thanks to training & coaching, in developing fully-fledged business plans, which will be submitted to AICS Dakar, which may award (to at least 50 of them) a financial contribution.

It is expected that, thanks to the project:

  • 70 business ideas are selected to be developed through a fully-fledged package of support, to be realised in Senegal
  • 13 socio-economic operators are selected among the Senegalese diaspora to support the development of business ideas
  • At least 42000 people from the Senegalese diaspora are informed on the opportunities available to develop business in their home country

NOPLANETB

NOPLANETB – There isn’t a PLANet B! Win-win strategies and small actions for big impacts on climate change

NOPLANETB is a program designed to promote the spread of sustainable lifestyles through the financial support of the best communication, awareness and advocacy initiatives aimed at fighting climate change and promoted by small and medium-sized civil society organizations, which benefit from a path of capacity building to enhance their skills and consolidate and / or expand their network.

NOPLANETB is an advocacy and campaigning project, co-financed by the European Union as part of the Development Education and Awareness Raising (DEAR) Program, which aims to support and encourage the involvement, participation and commitment of citizens on the issue of environmental sustainability, in relation to global development. The project aims to create a conducive environment around the concept that “there is no PLANET B”, in which small and medium-sized civil society organizations carry out effective actions within a shared common framework, aimed at increasing the effectiveness and relevance of the intervention, favouring the creation and consolidation of networks, at national and international level.
Small and medium-sized civil society organizations represent the main target of the project, as they can play a fundamental role in promoting a change in people’s habits and behaviours to spread more sustainable lifestyles at local level. The small actions, which insist on a territory, are in fact able to produce benefits for their community and to put pressure on the higher levels of governance to institutionalize good practices and propose innovative solutions, with a bottom-up approach. Civil society organizations are therefore able to connect and liaise with the different components of civil society, in the perspective of a real transition towards more sustainable lifestyles.

The project aims at impacting on three different levels:

The third parties (around 90 CSOs) represent the direct target group of this project. The project identifies three different incentives: funds, knowledge and contacts. Therefore, the project is built around three main components:

  • Local level: civil society organizations have carried out small actions involving citizens and local communities, in collaboration with local institutions, with the aim of changing citizens and decision-makers’ behaviours;
  • National level: collaboration is activated between the civil society organizations involved and other key stakeholders within their own country;
  • At pan-European level: civil society organizations in collaboration with NOPLANETB partners have intervened at the European level with coordinated actions and with a coherent approach in the six countries of the network.

In order to produce this impact, NOPLANETB has identified three main components:

    • Financial support: a regranting model aimed at civil society organizations of the 6 European countries of the network, for the implementation of effective projects that contribute to the shared project priorities.
    • Development of skills / knowledge sharing: a path to accompany the organizations benefiting from financial support with the aim of strengthening their thematic and managerial skills during the design, development and implementation of their projects.
    • Strengthening networking opportunities: building a network that enhances social capital, identifies areas of collaboration, detects new ideas and optimizes costs. Contacts and experience sharing are key factors to create multiplier effects and maximize the impact of the proposed actions.

Our activities

    • Financial support for selected small and medium-sized civil society organizations in the six partner countries;
    • Set up of a helpdesk to support the selected CSOs in their projects’ design and management;
    • Definition and delivery of a capacity building program;
    • Creation of the communication strategy of the project, linked to the development and dissemination of its brand;
    • Organization of meetings and events, including the final conference, with the involvement of local authorities to identify possible synergies.

Doniamo Energia

Doniamo Energia call for proposals

Through the evaluation of the Calls for Proposals Doniamo Energia, promoted by Fondazione Cariplo and Banco dell’energia, we contribute to the development of intervention models finalised at avoiding that disadvantaged families in the Lombardy descend into structural poverty. We do this by focusing on promoting skills and territorial networks.

Poor education, food and energy: these are three dimensions of poverty that the Fondazione Cariplo undertakes to fight together with institutions, non-profit organizations and companies, according to a model based on the three pillars: public, private and social.

The “Doniamo Energia” programme, promoted in collaboration by Fondazione Cariplo and Banco dell’energia, is one of the initiatives to combat poverty. The Banco Energia Onlus is a non-profit organization, promoted by A2A and the Foundations AEM and ASM, founded in 2016 with the aim of raising funds to support people and families belonging to weak social groups at risk of poverty.

The meeting between Fondazione Cariplo and Banco dell’energia made it possible to combine resources and skills to support people in economic fragility with paths of support and “re-start” at 360 °, first of all through the distribution of basic necessities or the payment of urgent expenses such as the bills of any energy operator, and then think of routes to take charge and reactivation, which provide for forms of work and social reintegration and to rethink resources for the community, with a view to generative welfare.

The “Doniamo Energia” program, now in its third edition, is promoted in collaboration with the Cariplo Foundation and Banco Energy, and is one of the initiatives to combat poverty in Italy. Over the course of the various editions, 38 consortia took part made up of non-profit organizations and local authorities who jointly presented multiple projects financed by the call.

Our activities
The involvement of PuntoSud is divided as follows:

  • The accompaniment to the implementing organisations aimed at facilitating the development of project ideas and the implementation of projects through a feasible and effective monitoring plan. With reference to this work plan, the following actions are inserted:
    • Helpdesk support and follow-up in progress, aimed at ensuring data collection and overcoming any operational difficulties of these activities.
  • The implementation of a system of monitoring and reporting of the progress of the program, able to systematically detect the progress of the project activities and to produce the information necessary for the periodic and overall control of the projects. In this context, sud was engagedto develop the format for the detection of results in order to ensure the project (and the program) a system for collecting the priority information in order to allow a collection of quantitative data of output and outcome. Together with this action, a complementary work of collecting qualitative information related to the implementation of the projects (deviation from the plan, criticality, elements of strength and opportunities) is also required.
  • Critical evaluation of the programme for donors, with the aim of highlighting and communicating to the representatives of the Cariplo Foundation, A2A Spa and the Banco dell’Energia Onlus, the progress of the program and the development of an overall evaluation experience.

Work4Integration

Work4Integration

Through the Work4Integration project, implemented across 3 European countries, we provide ideas and methods of intervention for the development of innovative models for the economic integration of migrants, involving networks of organisation and businesses.

The project Work4Integration – Europe, implemented by a Consortium leaded by Soleterre, wants to promote the early and effective integration on the labour market of third-country nationals, by creating effective transnational partnerships with all actors concerned.

The project will be realized in Italy, Sweden and Belgium and will pursue three objectives:

  • Promote an effective process of integration in the labour market of TCNs;
  • Engage employers and other key actors on labour market integration of TCNs;
  • Elaborate a multi-stakeholder win-win strategy for the effective labour integration of TCNs in Europe.

Demand-oriented services for TCNs will be developed in every country. Among the main activities there will be skill assessment; professional trainings; promotion of labour opportunities; multidisciplinary services; creation of toolkits for vulnerable categories and tutorship/follow up.
On the other side, activities for awareness creation and active involvement of companies will be realized (events, trainings, multidisciplinary support and promotion of the “Employer together for integration”). Finally, the project will promote the exchange of methods and practice among partners and the promotion of capacity building related to labour integration of TCNs through the elaboration of a unified action model that will be the basis to define the partners’ future strategy on the issue.

The project will have an impact on two main axes:

  • Facilitating TCNs’ access to the labour market thanks to a multidisciplinary approach that takes into account the complexity of their migratory project;
  • Consolidating a multistakeholder win-win strategy for TCNs labour integration, where stakeholders are engaged in the continuous exchange of tools and skills.

Feasibility study on development cooperation intervention models

We are working for the Associazione di Fondazioni e di Casse di Risparmio (ACRI) (Association of Foundations and Savings Banks) to define a multi-actor model of intervention in Africa, capable of aggregating resources and promoting the Italian development system in the strategic sectors of food farming and energy

The assignment was awarded by Fondazione Cariplo, on behalf of ACRI, to carry out a feasibility study on multistakeholder intervention models in the context of development cooperation.
The feasibility study implied the in-depth analysis of existing models and cooperation tools to outline a comprehensive synthesis effectively aimed at informing the strategic planning and future interventions of ACRI and of the member foundations.
The involvement of a large number of cooperation actors, both in Italy and in the countries of intervention, and the use of a diversified package of financial instruments, are two key elements of the models studied, which confirmed the value of systemic approaches for development cooperation interventions, unfolded around three distinct aspects, namely the system effectiveness, the valorisation of actors, the value added of interactions between businesses and civil society (and more generally, the non-profit sector as a whole).
Beyond the description of the suggested models of intervention in some selected sectors of intervention, the feasibility study also included the full description of the models in three different countries, where key sectors and potential partners have been further analysed to define possible intervention models.

Our activities

The feasibility study was unfolded around the following:

  • Forty-four significant and innovative experiences of project financing (case studies) were analysed, focusing in particular on multi-factor actions combining diversified and complementary financial instruments. Several elements of interest were analysed in relation to the priority criteria identified, among which blended financial instruments, impact investing schemes, systems/governance flexibility, diversification of donors/investors, timing, etc.
  • Enabling factors were identified to describe those external conditions that encourage (or boost) potential actors (CSOs, companies, etc.) to take the initiative to start a programme in a specific context.
  • Application of the enabling factors in some selected countries receiving technical assistance (mainly LDCs). Based on the evidence collected, three countries were prioritised and multi-stakeholder “intervention model” schemes described accordingly.
  • Elaboration of country scenarios to describe the socio-economic context in the three countries selected, before and after the new programming, focusing on key sectors.”

ENV.net factoring the environmental portfolio for WB and Turkey in the EU Policy Agenda

Through the project ENV.net, for over ten years we have been facilitating and supporting the work of environmental organisations in the Balkans and Turkey, through favouring a network building approach while promoting existing resources and opportunities within the different contexts.

The project “ENV.net factoring the environmental portfolio for WB and Turkey in the EU Policy Agenda” is implemented by Co-PLAN (Albania), as leading agency, and ATRC (Kosovo under UNSCR 1244/99), EASD (Serbia), EEB (Belgium), 4X4X4 Balkan Bridges (FYROM), Green Home (Montenegro), LIR Evolution (BiH), PuntoSud (Italy) and TEMA (Turkey), as partners.
With an overall amount of 1 M €, the project is co-funded by the European Commission – Directorate General EuropeAid. It started in December 2017 for a duration of 36 months.

The project aims at contributing to improve the environment for civil society and pluralistic media, as effective and accountable independent actors in dialoguing with Governments for influencing environmental policy and decision-making processes. It is expected that the ENV.net plays a leading role in policy elaboration on environmental issues, orienting the debate in circular economy and climate change issues, involving grass-root environmental CSOs, media and society in the Western Balkans and Turkey region.

Our activities
In the frame of the project, punto.sud is firstly playing a sort of crosscutting and transversal role, in particular to:

  • Elaborate and provide common tools for CSO networking and collaboration (small CSO capacity development) to capitalise the experience acquired in the previous phases (from 2012 to 2016);
  • Identify and share good practices within partners (e.g. collaboration with media, re-granting etc.);
  • Contribute to the definition of the financial support to third parties package (e.g. guidelines, templates, M&E modalities) and identification of effective models and share within partners;
  • Support the revision of existing e- learning modules, by diversifying topics and modalities, and the strengthening of the communication strategy.

Furthermore, PuntoSud is putting the basis to extend some of the key activities to the Italian scenario in order to ensure the spread and exchange of best practices and innovative models in the frame of the circular economy, especially by:

  • Contributing to the preparation of a joint methodology for the assessment of the circular economy applicable in the Western Balkans and Turkey;
  • Reviewing of existing experience in Italy with regard to the circular economy models and practices;
  • Organising of one thematic study tour in Italy on Circular Economy practices.

Be.St – Beyond Stereotypes

Be.St – Beyond Stereotypes

With the Be.St – Beyond Stereotypes project we promote the development of a systemic approach across primary schools in order to facilitate relationship building amongst children based on respect and the acknowledgement of diversity in order for future generations to become more aware of their potentials.

The project “Be.St – Beyond Stereotypes” aims at contributing to produce a cultural change in educational agencies (beginning from primary schools) that can have a positive impact on the choices of future generations, who become carriers of a “zero tolerance” message on all forms of gender violence and are able to convey the cultural change in the society.
A critical thinking on gender stereotypes, transmitted through families and teachers, will help to encourage young people’s awareness of the importance of mutual respect in relationships and to diminish the phenomenon of social and psychological abuse of one sex over the other. This will facilitate a more balanced relationship between the genders and an education of children respecting the differences, which will be perceived as an opportunity for mutual exchange and growth.
Considering the importance of stereotypes in the development of each individual, the choice to define the Be.St. model and experiment the proposed path in a primary school allows to focus on individuals when the stereotypes are being formed. The school selected to be the pilot is invited to adhere to a path that includes training and information activities, addressed to teachers and families, on gender stereotypes.
In this perspective, through the definition of an innovative model of primary school that promotes the idea of a Be.St school (beyond stereotypes), which is applicable and replicable on a larger scale, the project aims to achieve a twofold objective:
To contribute to the prevention of gender-based violence;
To contribute to the creation of awareness on the role of gender stereotypes in the dissemination of the gender-based violence.
The action is leaded by Fondazione PuntoSud and involves as project partners Comune di Milano – Assessorato all’Educazione and Assessorato alle Politiche Sociali; Associazione Scosse and Comitato Unico di Garanzia – Università degli Studi di Milano Bicocca.
The initiative is supported by Fondazione Cariplo and Comune di Milano. Additional requests for funds have been submitted to the European Commission and the Italian Government (Dipartimento Pari Opportunità).
