The general aims of the project are to exchange experiences and results of social protection and access to housing policies in order to improve inclusion and integration of vulnerable groups (immigrant people, ethnic minorities, citizens from countries in transition period); to identify successful practices that could support the coexistence between different groups with integration difficulties in the cities; to avoid gathering of immigrant people in specific areas, neighbourhoods.
The purposes of the work are :

  • To study exclusion phenomenon of immigrant people in urban areas in different Member States, in relation with the identification of discrimination factors in the access to housing and the consequences and impact that generates these discriminations in the urban areas: the coexistence of different groups with integration difficulties; the gathering of immigrant people in specific neighbourhoods; the overcrowding phenomenon; youth violence - gangs phenomenon -; discrimination factors in the access and use of particular public services - mainly education - etc.
  • To exchange experiences with other Member States and different stakeholders in order to contrast information on the situation in other countries and assess possible solutions adopted and proved, dealing mainly with social protection mechanism applied to immigrant people, for avoiding their discrimination in the urban areas and especially in the access to housing and education.
  • To generate a set of recommendations and strategic working procedures that help on designing equality treatment policies towards immigrant people in relation to access to housing and the use in equality conditions the educative services, incorporating special mechanisms of social protection when the discrimination produces serious situations and/or of social conflict.
