Access to housing and inclusion of immigrant people in Europe

The project “Building Inclusion” pretends to exchange experiences and results of social protection and access to housing policies, that have been developed by different MMSS (from national, regional and local level) in order to improve inclusion and integration of vulnerable groups (immigrant people, ethnic minorities, citizens from countries in transition period, etc); to identify successful practices that could support the coexistence between different groups with integration difficulties in the cities; to avoid gathering of immigrant people in specific areas.
The Member States involved are Spain, Germany, The Netherlands, Italy, Portugal, Austria and Finland.

Integration through participation

Integration through participation - Sharing best practices in 5 European contexts

The research work by punto.sud integrated the survey conducted by the other partners on migrant associationism in 5 European contexts. punto.sud analysed some best practices relating to transnational activities of co-development that have been realized by immigrants in the hosting European countries.
The factor of co-development is intended to be an additional value, as it embodies an element of innovation which is still often excluded within participation, integration and development processes of immigrant communities.

The project contributed to the sensitisation of 50.000 young europeans students in four countries (Italy, Denmark, Spain and Hungary creating a comic (graphic novel) on the basis of immigrants' real life histories collected through in-depth interviews and during several research works realised by the partner organisations within their activities. We wanted to tell immigrants' real life histories with the purpose of trying to fight against prejudices and the lack of knowledge characterising the imaginery of the immigration phenomena.
The comic, published in four different languages, is mainly targeted to lower and upper secondary school students.

The citizens' immigration from third countries in Europe is a reality for decades. The migratory flows in Europe have been produced in a very different way. So, in the European Union coexist countries with a high number of persons of immigrant origin. - Second and thirds generations - with other countries that at present, are receiving important migratory flows. A consensus doesn?t exists yet on what really it can be considered to be a successful integration neither, how measuring it. The project intended to create common European indicators, that serve to measure the immigrant integration in the EU, reaching the viewpoint of the national States, the viewpoint of the cities and the viewpoint of the immigrants, especially women. In addition, the project proposed a sustainable mechanism for the constant incorporation of different points of view to the European Integration Indicators System, so that a participative approach is permanently guaranteed in the measurement of the results of the European Integration policies.

Morocco Project

Il migrante marocchino in Italia come agente di sviluppo e di innovazione nelle comunità di origine

Il progetto, sulla base di un percorso teorico e di ricerca focalizzato in via sperimentale su sub-contesti regionali marocchini (Casablanca, Beni Mellal, Khouribga e Nador ) e italiani (Lombardia e Campania), ha inteso elaborare un insieme armonico di politiche migratorie e di cooperazione allo sviluppo, per sostenere e incentivare il ruolo di agente di sviluppo e di innovazione del migrante rispetto alla sua comunità di origine. Tali misure hanno trovato applicazione in un progetto formativo focalizzato sulla creazione e gestione di micro-imprese gestito in collaborazione con istituzioni locali marocchine (Ministère de l’Economie Sociale des PME et de l’Artisanat, MJE) , istituzioni italiane (CNA), migranti e comunità di appartenenza dei migranti.

The causes and dynamics of social exclusion among immigrants in Europe

Analysis of three cases: Denmark, Italy and Spain

This research was co-financed by the European Commission, Directorate General for Employment and Social Affairs, under the Call for proposals VP/2001/014 for preparatory actions to combat and prevent social exclusion (under 2001 Budget Line B3 – 4105). The objective of this work is to understand and explain the reasons for and the forms of social exclusion of immigrants, and how they are brought into economic and social marginalisation, in three European countries: Denmark, Italy and Spain. The international research network was made up of university institutes and associations with a long, established field experience and strong theoretical elaboration skills.
In Italy, the study and social research co-operative El Sur analysed the Italian case and particularly the city of Naples; punto.sud Association and the Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) Cooperazione Internazionale (COOPI) researched the city of Milan.
In Denmark, the Federico Caffè Centre – Dept. Of Social Science at Roskilde University and the non profit organisation Training, Education & Development Association (TED) studied the Danish case and the city of Copenhagen.
In Spain, the research was carried out by the NGO Centre d’Estudis Africans (CEA), in Barcelona.
