Social and political changes in the recent world history have consequently produced a rising of needs in the humanitarian aid sector. Within this context, beside humanitarian crises caused by natural disasters, a new area seems to be particularly crucial in the framework of human right development and support to marginal groups: the humanitarian interventions in areas characterised by permanent conflicts and absence of institutions.
Within this framework punto.sud has implemented specific studies aimed at identifying specific needs of the organisations implementing humanitarian interventions, considering both donors requirements and the necessity to guarantee “neutrality” as required by international code of conduct recognised at international level.
Following this approach, the definition of accountable methods in terms of need identification, targeting of beneficiaries and measurability of interventions becomes an essential component in the light of a correct management of humanitarian mandate.
In Italy as well as in the rest of the world, international cooperation to development has been characterised by a crescent demand for professionalism.
Within this framework punto.sud, acts for a better management of public and privat resources through a rationalisation and systematisation of the experiences in all the project cycle phases. This approach empashises the relation among actors not only in consideration of one specific actions, but also, more in general, in terms of adequate methods finalised to devlop effective partnership. The practices developed so far by punto.sud has made possible the set up of methdos and tools in project identification, project design, preparation of workplan, monitoring and evaluation of interventions.
The overall goal of these activities lies at one one side in the decision to guarantee measuribility and accountability to the interventions in terms both of effectivness and impact. From an other side this approach aims at identifyng proper best practices concerning sustainability and replicability of interventions.
punto.sud believes that this approach fully fits within the on going debate among the main international actors committed in the field of cooperation to the development.
The analysis of development factors may not exclude the on going social process in the North of the world. Within this context the migration phenomena may be considered particularly relevant. The reason is twofold: on one side it permits a better comprehension of the problems in the donor countries, from an other side it gives the opportunity to investigate on a link factor between North and South of the world.
Within this framework the presence of immigrants in Italy and Europe gives an important area of research and debate over the opportunity and potentiality that the communities of immigrants may have in terms of development of the country of origin and integration and social enhancement in the country of arrival.
In line with these considerations, punto.sud is focusing on the implementation of pilot experiences aiming at identifying best practices and approaches finalised to foster immigrants' communities in support development activities in their country of origin.
