This website has been created to respond to the problems faced by development operators in accessing and implementing EC-funded development projects. All information comes from official documentation published by the European Commission and its Cooperation Office - EuropeAid - specifically, except for the section Documents»Toolkits (top menu) where you can find useful material and links from different sources and working tools developed by punto.sud.
The main aim of this service is to facilitate the relationship between EuropeAid and its development partners by helping the latter find the correct information to adopt a common language and set of quality standards compatible with the EC requirements. The portal targets all development organisations, field workers, and other related actors involved in the management of EC-awarded grants: it aims at promoting the ultimate provision of timely, relevant, independent and accountable project realisations.
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It is an alternative means of accessing the vast amount of information that now exists on the world wide web. Instead of the user browsing websites for information of interest, the information is sent directly to the user.
The user needs to have an 'RSS reader' (sometimes called a feedreader or aggregator). This is a program which runs on the user machine; periodically the aggregator asks all the servers in its feed list if there are new content available; if so, the aggregator either makes a note of the new content or downloads it. The news are “raw XML news feeds” - files created by the content provider that are RSS-compatible. The RSS reader turns them into text and links that a user can browse at his or her leisure.
The content provider must have a feed specially set up to work with the news reader. Most big news websites now have such systems and the links are typically highlighted with an orange rectangle, http://www.puntosud.org/helpdesk-europeaid/feed.php, or with the orange 'XML' or 'RSS' boxes like these http://www.puntosud.org/helpdesk-europeaid/feed.php or http://www.puntosud.org/helpdesk-europeaid/feed.php .
The user sets the URLs (addresses) for these feeds into the feedreader: the results is that virtually the website comes to the user, rather than the user coming to the site. To be able to access the latest helpdesk news with our RSS system, you should:
- download an RSS reader and install it.
- right click with the mouse on the RSS icon http://www.puntosud.org/helpdesk-europeaid/feed.php and do “Copy shortcut” and then paste the link in the RSS reader you have. This will create a feed that will read the helpdesk latest News.
